As an IHG hotel, we use the IHG Green Engage system, an innovative online environmental sustainability system that gives hotels the means to measure and manage their impact on the environment. It’s our way of making sure we’re protecting our surroundings for our guests today, and tomorrow.
We also abide by the Green Tourism certification, and are currently ranked Silver. Green Tourism certification has been designed and managed by qualified and experienced sustainability experts who understand the challenges of tourism and hospitality businesses.
– During Summer 2023 we made a £380,000 investment in solar panels, totalling 947 panels across our roof. This enables the hotel to generate sustainable electricity whenever the daylight allows. We can easily track live data of how much electricity is being generated at any given moment, with daily, monthly and yearly reporting showing how much of our overall power consumption is actually being self generated. With some bright and sunny days during the summer months there are periods that we generate 100% of the kWh required at that time. This allows us to reduce our carbon emissions by 155 tonnes per year.
– We aim to constantly improve our waste management, with for example the acquisition of a cardboard press, a shred bank for our sales office and also a clear separation of recyclable waste and food waste in our kitchen.
– We offer our guests 3 electric charging points for their electric vehicles.
– Our new revolving doors allows us to keep the lobby at a stable temperature and save on heating.
– Our energy fan motors are allowing us to save up to 41% of energy in the running of air-conditioning and handling units.
– When it comes to conference & events, we make sure that most of what is in front of delegates is reusable: glass water bottles, glasses, ceramic cups. We also encourage delegates to be mindful of their paper use while with us. We are also part of “Changing the Menu. For Good”, a project enlisting venues, caterers and event organisers to directly raise funds for local food banks, including The People’s Kitchen, our chosen charity. A variety of ways to donate are in place, meaning business events, gala dinners, conferences and meetings can choose a method that suits their event. Funds raised will be used for food parcels, hot food and drinks, homeless outreach and emergency financial support to cover heating bills or essential supplies.
